NOTICE!
Cody Meets Harry! was the September 2020 Article of the Month.

"Cody Meets Harry!" is the 542nd episode of SML Movies.

Synopsis[]

Cody and Harry hate each other and prove who's smarter!

Plot[]

The episode starts off with Cody going to his seat, only to find Harry there. After telling Harry to get off of his seat, Bowser Junior and Joseph tell Cody that it was not his seat anymore since he's been gone for months, and after starting an argument with the whole class, Cody gets sent to sit in the closet.

After sitting in the closet, Cody, even after trying to answer one of Jackie Chu's questions, ultimately cannot be heard by the teacher, and Harry answers the question instead. And after Ken disappears and goes to Harry, Cody decides it is the last straw. Harry and Cody start an argument with each other, with various mathematical and scientific problems, until the teacher decides to hold a competition to determine which of the two is smarter, and the loser sits in the closet.

Cody, at his house, makes various basketball shots trying to bet that he'll win the competition, but all of them ultimately fail, until Cody decides to go to Harry's house to find out what he's making. After spying on Harry's dad changing, Cody looks through the other window, to find Harry has successfully created the cure for cancer and telling his mother that he will show it to school tomorrow. Cody realizes that the cure for cancer is the most cool invention of all, and goes home in a panic.

Cody, back at his room, suddenly gets an idea to cheat, by inventing a stupid ray and shooting Harry with it to make him too stupid to present his invention to the class. After getting some not-so-great advice from his dad, Cody makes the stupid ray and decides to test it out on Joseph offscreen.

Joseph arrives to school as dumb as a brick, while Harry is preparing his invention in three bottles. Jackie Chu doesn't hear Cody at first but ultimately decides to choose him. While up at the board, Cody presents his stupid ray to the class, and with Harry as his non-consenting "volunteer", Cody shoots Harry and turns him stupid. It is now Harry's turn to present his invention to the class, however, Harry, being stupid, pours the cure for cancer on the floor. Jackie Chu, not knowing what the tube was, declares Cody the winner of the Smartest Nerd Competition. Cody, having a change of heart, decides to admit his fault at cheating, but Jackie Chu turns it around by saying that because he cheated, he actually outsmarted Harry, making Cody realize he did deserve to win after all.

Cody returns to a still stupid Harry at his desk, with Bowser Junior asking Cody if Harry was going to be stupid forever, but the latter replies with a no and mentions it will wear off in a few minutes. Harry reverts back to normal, and in a fit of rage, berates Cody for his cheating, and saying that this wasn't the end of him. An angry Harry decides to go to the closet where Cody once was, while Cody takes back his Ken doll.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first episode to have Harry's name in the title.
  • This is the first time Cody's name appears in the thumbnail in 2020.
  • This is the first time Cody meets Harry physically.
  • This episode was uploaded on the same day "SMG4: Food Wars" was released. Both videos are coincidentally centered on people fighting to see who is better.
  • This episode was uploaded 2 years after "Jeffy's New Shoes!" and 6 years after "Bowser Junior's Game Night".
  • Jeffy's theme is playing when Harry is called to the front of the class while under the effects of the ray. This is the first time Jeffy's theme song has been heard without Jeffy himself appearing in the video.
    • That makes Jeffy the third character whose theme song is played in a video where they are not present, the first being Junior and the second being Black Yoshi.
  • Harry and Cody's faces are edited to look mad in the video's thumbnail.
  • This is the first time Jackie Chu talks about calculus without saying, "You no have PhD in carcurus!".
  • Toad's nametag is barely visible, but it is not fully visible, most likely because the tag contains the words "dat n*gga" and the series was attempting to be somewhat family friendly at the time.
  • This video was hinted by Junior in "Jeffy and Junior Sneak to Disney World!" when Cody asked, "Who's Harry?".
  • This is the fourth video to reference Tom Brady signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The first three being "Jeffy Goes Bowling!", "Black Yoshi's Big Bamboozle!", and "Bowser Junior the Babysitter!" respectively.
  • After Harry is blasted with Cody's Stupid Ray, he acts and sounds just like Drawing Jeffy.
  • In the behind the scenes video, due to Lance voicing both Jackie Chu and Harry, in the scene where Harry attempts to present the cancer cure to Jackie Chu, Chris was the one controlling Jackie Chu and Lance was the one doing Jackie Chu's voice.
  • The 1st BTS thumbnail uses the WWE Super Showdown logo.
  • This video was Harry's final appearance until "Bowser Junior's Pokemon Cards!".
  • This video was uploaded a day before the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. initially releasing in Japan, also making it the 35th anniversary for the Super Mario series overall.

References[]

  • Cody and Harry's rivalry is similar to Dexter and Mandark's rivalry in Dexter's Laboratory.
  • Cody's basketball being blue is a subtle reference to the term "blue balls".
  • Cody's stupid ray is similar to the Dumb Ray from the American Adult Animated Series Solar Opposites from Hulu and Disney+ from the episode The Lavatic Reactor.

Errors[]

  • The "H" in Harry in the description was originally lowercase.
  • Cody recites Pi wrong. He says 3.1415265359 but it really is 3.141592653589, with two 9s and an 8.
  • The stupid ray did not match the gear that Cody had in the thumbnail.
  • At the beginning of the video, the calculus problem seemingly was to be answered with the derivative of , given that is the derivative of . However, Jackie Chu asks simply for the answer and not for the derivative, meaning that he could have been asking for other solutions such as its factored form, though it cannot be factored any further. In addition, Jackie Chu writes the presumed derivative as , which would be incorrect because the correct notion would include a prime symbol, as in .
  • Like The Human Potion! and Scooter's Parents!, the new thumbnail still has the “Rad SML Thumbnails” watermark in the top corner.
  • In the new thumbnail, Cody has no expressions.
