In his newest vlog (not newest anymore, while I was writing he uploaded a new one), Logan explains why there's been no new SML Gaming videos recently. Some may have seen this already but I didn't see a post here about it.
Why the channels' dead
TLDR; dropping views (from 700-800K views per vid in the first two weeks to 80-100K), and the channel was operating on a monetary loss with most videos failing to recoup their monetary investment. Especially when you consider there were at least four crew members in each video, plus editors and thumbnail makers who had to be paid too. Logan covered the losses with money from the main SML channel, but it was such a money pit he decided he might as well put that effort into the main channel.
At a certain point, the best preforming vids were the SMLG Movies, but Logan didn't like making SMLG Movies. They felt like making more SML Movies, and he just wanted to play games on this channel. And if each SMLG Movie gives you 100K views, and SML Movies, which tend to get 3-4M views in a few weeks, take about the same time to record, yeah no wonder Logan dropped it.
What next?
Logan asks how he should handle gaming content. Should it just be a casual thing where he plays games with himself and Tito when he's bored? Should he just be himself instead of playing his characters? And what games should he play?
My opinion: I would prefer that. Casual videos where Logan just plays games as himself when he feels like it, with minimal editing. Those always felt raw. I feel like he ruined the gaming channel by trying to treat it as another job, it felt like watching more content instead of just fun gaming. That makes sense to do for the main channel, but I don't think he needs to extend that to everything he does. A simple gaming video dosen't need the budget of an SML Movie.
