If there's one area where SML usually delivers, it's the Christmas videos. Pretty much all of them consistently deliver on the carefree feelings of the holiday. So naturally I decided to make a list. As always, worst to best. You know how this goes.
EDIT: Added two videos I forgot about.
13: The Christmas Special - 5/10
This video does have a fair bit going for it. It nails the cozy Christmas atmosphere, some of the moments are classic, and the cast selection is also top notch. So what's the problem? The length. This video is long as hell. I have nothing against long videos (some of my favorite SML videos are lengthy) or slow videos, but it simply dosen't benefit this video at all. Between all the great moments, this video drags like a slug. Not a bad video by any means but by process of selection it's at the bottom by default.
12: How Black Yoshi Stole Christmas - 6/10
It has a couple of good jokes (highlight goes to Black Yoshi and Mario's gift delivery), but that's pretty much the most I can say about it.
11: Bowser's Christmas Problem - 6.5/10
Just a simple and fairly enjoyable stream of dialogue, though it isn't as inherently amusing or memorable as a lot of the other videos of the time period. Hence a slightly lower score than most.
10: Jeffy's Christmas Gift - 6.5/10
The main appeal of this video comes from the carefree mood of it. It's a pretty relaxed plotline. While that applies to most of these videos, it applies even more to this one than most. It's probably one of the most mellow and relaxed modern SML videos of all time and kinda feels like a more adult Charlie Brown animated Christmas movie in a way.
9: Elf on The Shelf - 6.5/10
Very inconveniental premise, though a lot of the jokes just came off as easy. Still a fairly entertaining video.
8: Jeffy's Gucci XBox - 7/10
Could change dramatically in the future given the video is just a few hours old as of right now but at the present is a pretty weak 7. The main thing that brings it down is a fairly middling middle (pun unintended) but the beginning and the ending right now are solid. Either way, definitely stands out among the other specials.
7: Mario's Christmas Tree Problem - 7/10
Classic comedy of blunders. The whole video is just Mario and a group of idiot robbers trying to achieve some dumb goal of removing a Christmas tree and their blunders and the subsequent dialogue are gold.
6: Brooklyn Guy's Christmas Problem - 7/10
Decently amusing video blended with a couple heartwarming scenes.
5: Bowser Junior Meets Santa Claus - 7/10
Another video I have a personal fondness to. Just a simple video of Junior and his friends goofing around with Chef Pee Pee in a mall, with a Fake Santa. Pretty agreeable end result.
4: The South Pole Santa - 7/10
I can't actually tell you too much about this one given I haven't watched it in a while but from what I remember of it, specifically it's action packed second half, it's a solid video and in my opinion, it definitely warrants it's spot up here.
3: Jeffy's Bad Christmas - 7.5/10
A video that grows on me more each year. It's simply hilarious. Almost every comedic gag is perfectly timed, and the whole video mixes stupidity with awesomeness, which I believe I've said I've liked in a few other lists.
2: Happy Merry Christmas - 8/10
Not much for me to say about this one. Even though there's a couple of dumb jokes, the character interplay, the interesting dual focus on Mario's family and Junior's family, the gift scenes, and the surprising amount of heart in the Junior segment, just makes this a very worthwhile vid.
1: Bowser Junior's Christmas Eve - 9/10
I knew this video would be number 1 from the moment I started making this list, and it really isn't close. Not only is this my favorite SML Christmas special but as you can guess from my elusive score, it's one of my favorite videos period. It's one of those rare videos where nothing could be changed to make me like it better. It's just pure joy in video form and it always makes me feel happy when I watch it. It's a perfect blend of funny, clever, and sweet all in one package.
